A Fire Blanket is made up of fire-resistant materials. The blanket itself is used for containing fat pan fires or for wrapping around a person whose clothing is on fire.
British & International Standards include (but are not limited to) the following:
BS 7944:1999 - Type 1 heavy duty fire blankets and type 2 heavy duty heat protective blankets
BS EN 1869:1997 - Fire blankets. This standard specifies requirements for fire blankets which are single use and are intended for use by one person. It is applicable to fire blankets primarily intended for extinguishing cooking oil fires. It is assumed that the fire blankets can also be used on fires involving personal clothing.
