IQ Fire Solutions set for service sector growth
Fire system specialist IQ Fire Solutions is set to further expand its offering for maintenance and servicing of fire detection systems to businesses in the South East.
The company, which designs, installs, commissions and services fire detection systems within commercial and industrial buildings, launched in 2008 and has focused primarily on installation and commissioning projects since then. It is now embarking on a growth drive that it hopes will increase its direct customer base for service contracts.
Company director Iqbal Khatkar, a respected specialist in commissioning large and complex fire alarm systems said, “The install and commissioning side of the business is booming and all of our work in this area is gained through referrals and recommendations which we are extremely proud of.” But he believes the secret to his success isn’t rocket science, “Clients want to work with contractors that are reliable, who know what they’re doing, are respectful of their clients’ business operations and are able to offer and implement solutions, not present them with problems. We tick all of these boxes and we’re now ready to take this and apply it to the service sector.”
IQ Fire Solutions already has a number of maintenance clients and the management team believes the company is now well positioned to further expand in this area. Glenn Merralls, service partner said, “The reputation we have earned over the last five years for our technical knowledge, skills, reliability and professionalism stands us in good stead and we have numerous testimonials from clients endorsing our company. We have held off actively pursuing the maintenance sector until now because we wanted to make sure we had everything in place to be able to continue providing the same level of service we offer to our install and commissioning clients.”
Putting things in place included forming a strong team of engineers and customer service staff and achieving ISO 9001:2008 and BAFE SP203:1 certification in fire alarm design, installation, commissioning and maintenance.
Glenn added, “Gaining our ISO 9001 and BAFE certifications was important to us so we dedicated a lot of time last year working towards them and were delighted when we were awarded them at the beginning of this year. Having these gives prospective clients the assurance that we have the relevant skills and procedures in place and that we can competently provide the level of service they require. We can confidently say that we now have the foundations in place to allow us to actively target the maintenance sector and really make a difference.”
To raise brand awareness the company is embarking on a marketing drive, which focuses on its vision to be more than just a standard service provider to its clients and instead be an active partner in their businesses, providing quality improvements that include training, 24/7 telephone support and regular advice, news and tips in the form of blogs, newsletters and videos.
Iqbal said, “All we need to do now is let businesses know that we are here to work with them, that we can provide them with the level of service they expect, and most importantly in this economic climate, that we won’t take advantage with costs. We are very fair in our pricing structure as we want every client to stay with us for a very long time. That won’t happen if they perceive us as being extortionate. That’s not to say we’re going to be the cheapest – you get what you pay for when you are buying skills, expertise and experience, and there are always going to be companies out there offering to do it for less but we’re not out to make a quick buck, we want to work with our clients for many years to come and strong business relationships are built on trust and integrity.”
Glenn added, “In most SMEs it is usually the office manager or PA who ends up taking on the responsibility for the fire detection system. These people already have a huge workload and having to worry about the fire alarm is just another hassle that they don’t need so we aim to take away as much of the pain that comes with this responsibility as possible. With every maintenance contract, we manage all the administration, from scheduling our regular visits, updating their fire alarm log book and providing comprehensive engineer reports to always being there at the end of the phone if they have any questions or simply need a bit of advice. In turn, the business owner benefits from peace of mind that they are compliant with their fire safety obligations and are meeting the requirements of their insurers. Ultimately, we eliminate the worry about their fire detection system so they can focus on running their business.”
Existing service client the British Film Institute (BFI) asked IQ Fire Solutions to maintain the fire alarm system at their Southbank London venue after they had previously completed an installation project for them at another venue. The facilities management team said, “We first came across IQ Fire Solutions in the summer of 2011 when they were subcontracted to execute a major upgrade of our fire alarm system at the BFI IMAX. We were so impressed with their knowledge and professionalism that we asked them to take over the maintenance of our fire alarm at the BFI Southbank. They are committed to doing an excellent job, work flexibly around our operations, and keep us well informed and advised at all times. We hope we will continue to enjoy a lasting professional relationship with them and are pleased to endorse their services."
The company’s initial targeted growth area for service contracts will be London and the South East, with plans to branch out to further regions in due course.
IQ Fire Solutions’ maintenance services include fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, gas suppression systems and sprinklers within commercial, industrial and managed residential premises.
