Fire safety measures in hospitals have traditionally been based on the prescriptive approach, set out in the current NHS Firecode. With the new fire legislation, the Department of Health has undertaken a detailed review of the NHS Firecode, which BRE has actively been involved with. This has led to some dramatic changes being made to the existing documents, which will be replaced by three key pieces of guidance. The changes will be implemented next year in line with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order.
