One of Europe's leading emergency response providers, SembCorp Protection, has boosted its high-risk-environment firefighting and emergency response equipment with the addition of a high-capacity, fast-delivery water support unit. Fitted with the latest Angus Fire technology, it enables SembCorp Protection, which is responsible for safeguarding one of Europe's largest concentrations of chemical plants and refineries, to transfer water whenever and wherever it is needed in the right quantity and at the right pressure.

The new unit incorporates 2,000 metres of Angus Fire's 125mm diameter Hi-Vol hose that is stored flat and can be deployed from the unit in a matter of minutes, enabling water to be moved quickly over long distances with minimal friction loss. The unit also has capacity for a further 2,000 metres of Hi-Vol hose to increase the reach to 4,000 metres. Hose recovery is equally fast and effortless, thanks to the unit incorporating Angus Fire's Fetch automatic hose recovery system; 1,000 metres of hose can be recovered in around half-an-hour with the use of very little manpower.

The water support unit is operated by SembCorp Protection's emergency response teams and, while based on the 800-hectare Wilton International site, it is also helping the company to safeguard the nearby Billingham and North Tees complexes, both of which are protected by SembCorp.

'This is a major enhancement of our emergency response capability,' said Greg Richardson, SembCorp Protection's Technical Manager. 'It carries all the water support equipment we need to deal with every type of incident that requires the delivery or removal of large volumes of water, whether it is for firefighting or flood relief.'

Currently, SembCorp Protection is responsible for safeguarding £14 billion worth of high-hazard industrial assets. Its core skills and offerings embrace the provision of outsourced emergency response services, risk assessments, reviewing clients' emergency protocols or facilities, as well as devising and planning emergency training tailored to specific needs or circumstances. The company also deploys the latest fire protection and engineering equipment to protect lives and assets as well as ensuring business continuity.
