The Fire Satistics Monitor was published last Friday, 24 June, revealing the latest National Statistics on fires, casualties, false alarms and non-fire incidents attended by the Fire and Rescue Services in England, from April 2010 through to March 2011. It becomes apparent in this review that there has been a general decline in the number of fires, as well as a decline in fatalities.

In summary, the total number of fire fatalities was 4% down from last year, with a decline also in fatalities in accidental dwelling fires.

Fire and Rescue services attended 227,000 fires between April 2011 and March 2010, a 6% decrease in last year’s numbers. The total number of false alarms attended fell by 5%. This is a statistic that needs to be improved even more so.

The increase in non-fatal casualties could be explained in reflection that there was also an increase in casualties who showed no signs of obvious injury, but were advised to attend a precautionary check. The number of non-fatal casualties was up by 17%.
