Commander Fire Extinguishers

Commander Fire Extinguishers

Postby chogs280 » February 19th, 2010, 4:09 pm

These extinguishers have a serious flaw, in that the bottom "carrying" handles snap off especially on the larger 9kg/ltr models, rendering the extinguisher inoperable
We have taken over a maintenance contract from a company who was supplying these units for use on HGV trailer units.
So far we have discovered around 25 of these extinguishers which have either failed or are about to fail (cracked handles) in 6 months.
The problem is that the bottom handle is held in place by a tiny (1 mm) ledge on the back of the valve. There simply isn't enough metal to retain the handle in position.

Their website has no contact details, if anyone here has contact details for them, i will gladly contact them with my concerns.
However as we do not supply their equipment, it is not on top of my priority list.
This post was purely to make other people aware of the issue who may have many of these extinguishers currently out on service.
Thanks.

As with all good debate there is always two sides for and against. Responsibly we have been in touch with a Commander Distributor who has assured us of no complaint in respect to design or handle breakage, we have also contacted the main distributor who has asked us to e mail the Quality Assurance Managers contact details to our first comment for them to get in touch for remedy and investigation. This seems to us a very valid and appropriate response.
