Hi,

For Health Care premises, I suggest that you have a look at HTM 05- 02 for guidance; means of escape for hospitals can get quite complex.

This is an extract from the guidance mentioned, there is quite a lot more to it though - 'every level over 12 m above ground that contains patient-access areas should be divided into a minimum of four compartments. Where no hospital street is provided, each compartment should have a minimum area of 500 m2; where one of the compartments is a hospital street, the area of the hospital street may be less than 500m2. All compartments must be interconnecting. Unless the design incorporates a hospital street, there should be a minimum of three exits from each compartment'.

I suggest that you get some expert advice.

Hi,
I’ve got the 05-02 but unfortunately they don’t say anything regarding the number of starcaise,
For example I know that a staircase of 1.2 can evacuate up to 870 people in a building of 15 stories, and whit the core in the middle I`m fine with the distance, but common sense tell me be to provide at least 2 staircase, but I can’t fine a formula or something that can prove my thought.
Hope that I was clear to explain my problem, I really don’t know which book o reg. can help.

You need to approach this the same way as you would any other multi-storey building, it is the travel distances which will dictate the number and location of staircases; there isn't a 'formula'. Para 5.52 states a minimum of 2 staircases, after that it will depend on the size and shape of your building, have a look at fig 5 & 6.

Sorry i`ve foud the paragraf.
Now I`m just wandering if the 2 starcaise have to stay in a separate place or they can stay togheder in the same main core (my building is a tower where is provided just one central space vor vertical circulation)
