The dates and locations for a series of four absorbing seminars dealing with catastrophic fires, has now been set by the Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP).

Entitled 'Commercial structures and catastrophic fires 'the learning curve', each seminar will scrutinise well-known fires such as the World Trade Centre, New York fire, the Mont Blanc, St Gothard, English Channel and Frejus tunnel fires, the Torre Windsor and Caracas Parque Central Towers fires, Sahib Foods and the Bradford City Football Club disaster.

The examination of each fire will be treated in 'Case Histories' format. It will consider the structure-s background, the installed fire protection measures, the cause and reason for the fire, the reasons for the fire spread and its development, the business interruption costs and environmental damage, the lessons that were learned and changes in legislation that occurred as a result.

The seminars are scheduled for the 5th October at the City of Manchester Stadium, the 19th October at the Madjeski Stadium, Reading, the 2nd November at Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh and the 23rd November at the Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham. The delegate fee for each event is £195.00, plus VAT, which includes the full set of ASFP publications (current value £150.00).

The seminar will be of interest to individuals with responsibility for fire protection and in particular, Architects, Building Control Officer, Main Contractors, Facilities Managers, Fire Safety Engineers, Property developers and Fire Service personnel.
