Innovative fire protection solution solves design problem

. For their contemporary open space design the Building Regulations demand that a protected staircase is provided or alternatively, they require the use of sprinklers as a compensatory measure.
MacBryde Homes were already aware of an innovative residential fire protection solution which would overcome these potential problems. Automist from Plumis uses a high pressure pump to generate a fine water mist from nozzles mounted under a standard monobloc mixing tap. The innovative system can also be mounted stand alone on a work top or even a wall. In an extensive BRE test programme, Automist was found to render a lethal environment survivable and reduce damage. Advantages also include rapid and automatic fire suppression, neat and economical installation with the need for significantly less pipework than a traditional sprinkler system, and greatly reduced water damage to the fabric of the property, fixtures and fittings. MacBryde believed that Automist would be the ideal solution for the contemporary open plan design of the project at the same time as complying with building regulations and the RRFSO. And as a further fire precaution they also provided escape windows at first floor level. Automist is available as an inconspicuous wall mounting version to protect stairwells or escape routes and a unique mixer tap version for higher risk kitchen fire protection. It allows much greater design freedom and flexibility for open plan spaces not only in new builds as in this case but also in refurbishments or loft conversions.
The Kitchen mixer tap version comprises a patent pending water-mist nozzle assembly for monobloc mixer taps, a pressurisation pump under the sink and standard Heat Alarm to detect the fire. The wall mounted version is an alternative suppression method for overcoming fire precautions in lieu of only passive fire protection.
Family run with traditional values yet forward thinking ideas, MacBryde have been building homes for over 25 years. They base their success on maintaining excellent customer satisfaction and were delighted that they could satisfy the requirements of their customer with a very cost effective, unobtrusive solution.
