As one of the largest dedicated fire safety events in the world, International Firex proved itself to be the ideal platform for more than 150 exhibitors to showcase the latest and greatest in the world of fire safety solutions.

Having taken place at the NEC Birmingham from 16-19 May 2011, International Firex opened its doors to key decision makers and qualified fire protection professionals in search of the newest advancements in fire protection, prevention and detection products and services.

Industry recognised companies such as Tyco Fire Suppression Systems & Building Products, Fike Safety Technologies, Fike Protection Systems, Nittan, STI Europe, Fireco, Advanced Electronics, Kentec, EMS Radio Fire & Security, Hochiki Europe (UK), Cooper Fulleon, Detectomat, Detector Testors, Apollo Fire Solutions, C-Tec, were amongst those exhibiting.

With five unique feature areas and four seminar theatres, International Firex 2011, established itself as the biggest in its history, delivering an expansive exhibition and an extensive educational programme, offering live demonstrations, seminar sessions and presentations.

The new feature areas such as the ASFP Fire Protection Zone , Fike Village and the FPA info zone all proved incredibly poplar throughout the four day event. Hosted by the Association of Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) the ASFP Passive Fire Protection Zone incorporated hospitality with a free seminar area, concentrating on products, services and best practice in built-in fire protection, providing visitors with exclusive access to industry experts and practical solutions.

Fike Village provided a relaxed and informal setting, in the form of an American diner, allowing both Fike Protection Systems and Fike Safety Technology customers the opportunity to meet key specifiers and end users attending the show. Whilst the FPA info zone, hosted by the Fire Protection Association, offered a range of free seminars and surgeries covering many topical issues including fire risk assessment, competency requirements and business continuity planning. Regular demonstrations of new FPA products and initiatives also took place throughout the event.

Established zones including the info4fire.com Learning Zone, run in association with the Fire Industry Association, and the LPCB Red Book Pavilion, also attracted a generous amount of visitors to the free seminars and presentations on fire risk assessment, fire alarm system design, emergency lighting, business advice, portable extinguisher maintenance, fire safety legislation and the importance of third party approval and product testing.

Furthermore, the Fire Excellence Awards celebrated and rewarded the industries finest at a stunning gala dinner hosted by former British Lions and England Rugby Union player Martin Bayfield.

And just for fun, the info4fire.com Gaming Zone illustrated a number of International Firex visitors to be dab hands at virtual ten pin bowling. The daily ten pin bowling challenge was undertaken each day on the Wii console with the winner of the tournament being presented with the coveted ten pin bowling challenge trophy at the end of each day.

James Blue, Portfolio Director – Fire & Security, at UBM Live, a division of UBM Plc, organisers of International Firex, said, “This year International Firex was larger than it has ever been in terms of the number of exhibiting companies and we are delighted at the outcome of the event.

“The large, exciting and interactive stands ensured that the exhibitors engaged with their audience and we worked hard to develop the educational content and provide a better offering to our visitors through new partnerships for 2011. The feedback from exhibitors and visitors alike has been exceptional.”

International Firex returns to the NEC Birmingham in 2013 and will be co-located with IFSEC, Safety & Health Expo and The Facilities Show, with each show forming part of the UBM Live Protection and Management series.
