Providing fire protection for temporary buildings on construction sites can cause all sorts of headaches. Modular containers which are frequently used on building sites to provide non-permanent office and storage space are normally hired and a charge can be made at the end of the hire period when a hole has been drilled to accommodate cabling for such things as fire alarms.

UK fire safety legislation requires that 'adequate' means for the detection and warning of fire must be provided in all workplaces and other 'non-domestic' properties and this includes temporary accommodation. The temporary buildings are manufactured off-site and all the internal finishes, plumbing and electrics fitted before or on delivery, so extra time and expense would usually be required to fit fire protection.
