Chubb Fire & Security is part of UTC Fire and Security, a company that provides fire safety and security solutions to more than one million customers worldwide.
The Chubb Fire Corporate national accounts business in the UK has over 200 field technicians serving customers for extinguisher service in business sectors ranging from Retail and Leisure, to Government, universities, councils and hospitals. Every year Chubb Fire & Security performs over 150,000 inspections and services over four million fire extinguishers.

Why TaskMaster?
In 2000 Chubb Fire implemented TBS Enterprise Mobility’s TaskMaster solution to provide its field technicians with a more efficient means of managing collections, deliveries, installations and service jobs. TaskMaster enables the technicians to view individual tasks on a mobile device, along with the routine and demand service work planned each month.

“TaskMaster enables us to eradicate paper worksheets and save time previously spent on costly manual administration,” explains Andy Rishman, Project Manager at Chubb Fire. “Because the completed task data is automatically returned to office systems over wireless networks, we can invoice immediately, which improves cashflow and reduces debtor days.”

Adapting to change
In 2000 Chubb Fire invested in semi rugged Windows CE devices, GSM data cards and O’Neil printers for their original mobility solution, but after many years of reliable service the time came to upgrade. “Upgrading hardware with the latest Windows Mobile operating system gave us the chance to revise our TaskMaster configuration, incorporating new developments from TBS,” says Rishman. Thanks to TM Studio, TaskMaster’s intuitive configuration tool, replicating existing solutions and adding functionality can be performed in days rather than months, before being deployed on Motorola MC70 devices. While Chubb Fire’s original solution was custom developed to accommodate all its requirements, the upgrade was a far more straightforward process.

Real-time data benefits
As well as enhanced functionality and simple workflow modification enjoyed through TM Studio, additional benefits are achieved through Vodafone wireless connectivity. This empowers real-time data exchange for features such as job status updates.

By virtue of the “always on / always connected” nature of GPRS data, Chubb Fire makes new cost efficiencies. “We can now return completed task data in real-time and automatically email the results to customers,” says Rishman. “This has numerous benefits, not least in the redundancy of bulky portable printers. Sending customers emails with the TaskMaster software makes everything much simpler.”

The future
“In the ten years we’ve worked with TBS, TaskMaster has bought us a range of process efficiencies,” concludes Rishman. “By working closely together and allowing as much management control as possible, the solutions we provide to our technicians improve their day-to-day working experience. It makes workflows simple, secure and extremely effective.”

With fresh benefits arriving in the shape of the TaskMaster Management Console, a web based tool which allows office staff to monitor live activity, Chubb Fire is well prepared for another decade of reliable service.
