EC Regulation 842/2006 on certain fluorinated greenhouse gases requires that all systems containing F-Gases must be installed and maintained by competent personnel to ensure that they comply with this Regulation. This is effective as of 5th July 2009.

Due to new legislation which came in to force in March 2009, skilled personnel who currently service F-Gas systems are now required to demonstrate their competence with an independently awarded competence certificate. The FIA is the approved Certification and training body for fire systems in the UK as given in the Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases Regulations 2009 (SI 2009/261).

FIA Scheme for F-Gas Certification
By law, all users of F-Gas systems are now required to use certified personnel for all aspects of their system, including installation, leakage checking and repairs. The FIA Scheme for F-Gas Certification is the industry approval scheme designed to verify compliance with the requirements of EC Regulation 842/2006.

The primary objectives of this scheme are:

- To protect the environment from the long-term effects of the unregulated discharge of F-Gases
- To ensure that companies employ appropriately certified personnel in a sufficient number to cover the expected volume and type of activities
- To provide the necessary tools and procedures to personnel engaged in activities for which certification is required

FIA F-Gas Training Course
- 22nd September, Manchester
- 29th September, Kingston upon Thames, Surrey

In order for a company to be awarded a certificate all skilled personnel within that company who service F-Gas systems need to demonstrate their competence with an independently awarded competence certificate. In order to gain the certificate in competence, personnel must go through theoretical training, in the form of the FIA F-Gas Training Course, as well as practical training and assessment, which is carried out and certified through manufacturers.

The FIA F-Gas Training Course is designed to train technicians on all aspects of F-Gas installation, maintenance and repair and covers all the main requirements of the new legislation. This one day course is PowerPoint based, allowing for a great deal of interaction between the trainer and delegates and ensuring that all key areas are covered.

Over the course of the day, delegates will go through eleven sections covering the theoretical and practical requirements:
