Prysmian In Eden

Some 12,000 metres of Prysmian's FP Plus cable have been installed in the public address and fire alarm systems at the new Eden Shopping Centre in High Wycombe, helping to protect the 350,000 people passing through the centre each week.

Premier Electrics of Magherafelt in Northern Ireland were contracted to carry out the work. Site manager, Nigel Brown, explains; "We started work in January 2007 and completed our electrical installation by March 2008. Critical to the ease of the fit out was how fast FP Plus is to terminate. With MICC cable it can take a good five to ten minutes to make up and terminate the end of a cable. With FP PLUS it is more like one minute, without compromising on cable quality either."

The new generation FP PLUS is manufactured with enhanced Insudite insulation which increases damage resistance creating a highly durable cable. It is fully compliant with all the requirements for enhanced cables approved for fire detection and fire alarm critical signal paths in BS5839-1:2002 enhanced application areas including the new integrated fire, shock and water test BS8434-2, voice alarm systems to BS5839-8:2008 and emergency lighting systems to BS5266-1:2005.

Since opening, the Eden Shopping Centre has filled a major retail gap in the region and customers can now discover an array of big name shops from House of Fraser to Sony Centre. Spread over some 650,000 sq ft, a 12-screen cinema, state-of-the-art bowling alley, library, restaurants, flats, and 1,530 parking spaces complete the experience.
