The New Fire Trade Association Created To Support Professional Fire Companies
Membership and news update
The UK Fire Association accepted its first members from 1st February and has quickly established itself having received dozens of applications in just a few weeks. We were aiming to achieve this level of membership in our first year, not in our first month! Welcome if you have just joined.
Due to the high level of demand the Managing Group has decided to extend the free joining fee (normally £75) period to at least the end of March. Membership is available online to bone-fide UK fire equipment and systems suppliers and installers. Prospective members need to demonstrate competency in their area(s) of expertise and to have adequate levels of insurance. Membership costs just £200 per annum and is VAT free.
BAFE Scheme SP101 accredited company's and members of FIA, IFEDA and BFC have been accepted through the fast track joining process without needing to go through auditing (however we do reserve the right to audit any prospective member). If you have recently resigned membership of one of these trade associations may still qualify for fast track membership - contact the Secretary for details.
You don't have to be a member to log onto the www.uk-fa.org website and keep up to date with industry news - add it to your favourites. Current topics include BAFE moving to Moreton-in-Marsh, Peter Bollons retirement and the imminent release of the revised British Standard 5306 part 3 (available at substantially discounted prices to UK FA members). Watch out for details of new training courses that we will be introducing over the next few months. Just a reminder that our extinguisher technician refresher course and the student learning assessment paper required by BS5306 part 3:2003 is fully accepted by BAFE.
Tom Law the UK FA Treasurer sums up the associations aims when he says "the UK Fire Association approach is to educate, not dictate - we intend to be led by what our members actually want". Alan Price the Chairman added that "with the wide experience amongst our members, anyone looking to diversify into new areas in fire protection e.g. fire alarms, training, fire risk assessment, risers, sprinklers, etc. or want to improve their marketing, graphics or operating efficiency, should find the resources available from within the UK FA to help them grow their business".
If you have not already applied to join we invite you to get involved with a friendly and dynamic association that listens to its members. Join online now, visit www.uk-fa.org - for just £200 what have you really got to lose?
