The Standard is about an organisation's ability to recover from any major business disruption - everything from a flood to a fire, the complete meltdown of an IT system to a major breach in security. Accreditation under BS 25999-2 means that a company can demonstrate to its customers, shareholders, suppliers, employees and the local community that it has robust systems in place to cope with just about any crisis or disaster. The belief is that BS 25999-2 accreditation will soon become the hallmark of any company that takes its corporate governance seriously. In future, companies without it will find it increasingly difficult to do business.
The Standard requires an organisation to examine closely its business and operational risks, conduct impact analyses and develop effective response strategies to manage the risks to ensure the company's ability to continue to operate following a disruptive event. It involves the successful completion of a number of audits.
The programme at Sembcorp was led by Bill Simpson, Emergency Preparedness Consultant, and it is the team's expertise that is now being made available to other companies.
Commenting on its BS 25999-2 "blueprint" offer, Bill said: "Sembcorp UK's accreditation underpins the emergency preparedness and response programmes that the Protection Group is now putting in place across Europe, the advice it is providing to high-hazard businesses and the training it is delivering." He continued: "Now we are in a position to share these lessons and our experience with our clients, not just to help them achieve BS 25999-2 accreditation, but to ensure they are best prepared for any emergency that might threaten their business."
Sembcorp UK's Protection Group is one of Europe's leading emergency response providers, responsible for safeguarding £14 billion worth of high-hazard industrial assets.
