Sembcorp Symposium Focused On Effective Communication

The focus of the day was on sharing learning through integrated communication, and Sembcorp UK Protection Group brought together a panel of expert speakers from a broad spectrum of industry-related organisations who shared their experience and insight. These organisations included the Hazardous Installations Directorate of the Health & Safety Executive, Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit, the Health Protection Agency's Emergency Planning unit, the Environment Agency's Process Industry Regulation division, and corporate sector law firm, Eversheds.
Delegates learnt how front-line experts, such as Dennis Hampson, Chief Emergency Planning Officer at Cleveland Emergency Planning Unit, have put communications best practice to effective use; an achievement endorsed by being awarded the government's coveted Beacon Authority status. Alex Keddie, principal inspector of the Hazardous Installations Directorate of the Health & Safety Executive, added to the debate by describing the factors that are key to achieving effective communication, and identifying the most common pitfalls. Other presenters included Tim Hill of Eversheds, Howard Stuttard from the Environment Agency, and Matthew Drinkwater from the Health Protection Agency.
Copies of all of the presentations are now freely available at www.sembutilities.co.uk/protection/downloads/
