Another Fatal Hotel Fire

61 people were evacuated in total including residents of surrounding buildings, of those evacuated five were taken to hospital including Stephen Smith from Chesterfield who died following a heart attack.
Miss Cook was one of the residents who escaped; she told reporters that at the time, she and other guests saw no fire extinguishers or staff in the building as they escaped.
Early indications pointed to an electrical fault in the bar area of the hotel, investigations for both incidents are still underway, arson has now been ruled out in the Manor Hotel, however, police and fire crews are still unable to locate the cause of the blaze.
The British Hospitality Association has highlighted the importance of fire safety within hotels and guest houses and has urged owners to comply with the new legislation. Not only is a Fire Risk Assessment now required but the latest fires demonstrate the importance of training, escape routes, emergency planning and equipment such as correct signage and extinguishers.
