Red October - The day is looming!

The deal is basically this; if you have 5 or more staff, fire safety is yours to manage and includes all persons that enter your building; staff, visitors, contractors and the fire service!
It is not to be ignored, if a fire was ever to occur, and results in a casualty, the premise of the new law is you are guilty, until you prove yourself innocent! You will be asked to offer sufficient evidence that you have fulfilled your obligations effectively, and if you have it's a certainty that you will be in the clear.
So the key question is what do you need to do?
The first stage is to organise a fire safety risk assessment of your premises.
From this you will need to identify key elements that require attention, you must inform your staff and show a plan of implementation - resolving these elements.
This process will need to be documented, and this documentation will create a file - called "the file of evidence". It's this file that you will be called upon to show in the event of a fire.
The second stage is to organise training. Training will be a key factor in maintaining a fire safe environment within your organisation. Again, proof of this will need to be shown in your file of evidence.
From October onwards Means of Escape will be developing a series of interactive guides and articles on how to satisfy the new requirements, for updates you should register for our monthly newsletter by clicking here.
