Perform Your Fire Risk Assessment

Everyone by now should be aware of the new fire safety legislation which came into force on 1 October 2006, affecting businesses of all types throughout the country.
You may also be aware that many small businesses do not know about their responsibilities under the new law, not only putting themselves and their premises in danger but also running the risk of breaking the law and suffering substantial penalties.
You may also be aware that many small businesses do not know about their responsibilities under the new law, not only putting themselves and their premises in danger but also running the risk of breaking the law and suffering substantial penalties.
In response to this situation, PSAssociates have produced complete fire safety management 'toolkits' for use in three of the most vulnerable sectors:-
- schools and colleges
- residential care homes
- hotels and guesthouses
Bournemouth Borough Council has also commissioned a similar package for Large, Medium and Small Places of Assembly {including Outdoor Events}
Available for public resale in August 07
All the toolkits come in the form of two-disc sets: a CD-ROM, containing management information, risk assessment forms and guidance in the form of printable documents and filmed 'tutorials', and a DVD for use specifically in staff training, which contains a film and some of the tutorials and power-point presentations.
These management toolkits enable the School Head Teacher/ Care Home/Hotel/Guest House owner/manager or event organiser to:-

- Train staff not only in what to do in the event of a fire, but what not to do
- Document all that is necessary to ensure legal compliance, using the fire safety record keeping log book supplied
All material has been written by former senior fire officers and local authority health and safety advisers.
The toolkits include:
- the main legal requirements of the Fire Safety Order 2005
- staff training - a presentation on fire safety awareness for employees
- a light- hearted quiz for employees so that managers can ensure that they have absorbed the main learning points
