The Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) was formed in 1975 and currently represents more than 80 member companies, including all the major U.K. based product manufacturers and installers of specialist fire protection products, with Associate members representing regulatory, certification, testing and consulting bodies.

The original aim of the organisation was to establish and maintain standards for structural fire protection products and contracting performance, thus enabling reliable financial forecasts to be incorporated into estimates for steel construction. Nowadays, the ASFP sets the standards in passive fire protection in general.
